Better late than never….
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally, and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.
In 2022 Bankstown marked its 5th IDAHOBIT event in community.
IDAHOBIT is marked on the 17 May each year.
This year the Canterbury Bankstown Inclusive Communities Network marked the day on the 26 July. While we were two months late, we made up for it by the extra glow the event radiated.
Exploring the theme of Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights, we held a panel discussion with gender diverse people. Our MC, Savannah Stimson, and panellists, Malaika Lfalme, Ray Vargas, and Vivien, drew us into a rich discussion with honesty, authenticity and heart. We were also treated with inspiring performances by Adrian Mouhajer, Vivian and Malaika.
Thanks to Outloud for the Zine workshop on the day and for the use of your space at the Bankstown Arts Centre.
“It was a beautiful event. The performances just enhanced the positive message of love, acceptance, understanding and culture”
